Technical Remedies for Power Systems and the Electrical Grid to Be More Resilient

The safety and dependability of utility operations are greatly impacted by adverse weather conditions, ranging from hurricanes and wildfires to winter storms and heat waves. We collaborate with our clients to put methods into place that aid in anticipating, planning for, adjusting to, and recovering from disturbances and outages. GEM is a first-of-its-kind software solution that we developed as part of our holistic approach to help utilities better manage emergencies and outages.

Key Services

Improving emergency management with utility-specific software

GEM is a safe online tool created to improve workflows and better prepare for disruptions. In order to maximize response times, it compiles information from several sources, including weather services and GIS mapping, and acts as a storehouse for crucial playbooks and contacts. A report-generation tool is also included to aid in cost recovery and regulatory compliance. It was first created with assistance from industry partners and the U.S. Department of Energy, and it has since matured into a cutting-edge disaster management tool.

Implementing grid hardening programs

For existing infrastructure, we offer a full-scale pole inspection and analysis as well as industry-leading treatments to strengthen and extend the service life of above ground poles. We have experience converting power lines from overhead to underground and can specify more robust models of transformers, switchgear and circuit breakers. At substations, we implement advanced protection and control design and deploy technologies that provide remote monitoring, fault detection and automated switching. To help mitigate the impacts of outages, we help clients integrate microgrids into distribution networks.

Deploying resources for storm recovery

We provide emergency services for power plants and industrial facilities, which may include procurement assistance, temporary power solutions, and on-site electrical equipment examinations. We can send teams to impacted areas to survey damage and assist electric companies in reducing safety risks like downed power lines.
